ALEX: A new generation of level crossings in Sweden

Sweden has a well-developed infrastructure network with 16,500 kilometres of railway lines. However, the technologies that have been used in recent decades are no longer state of the art and as such Trafikverket (TRV), the largest infrastructure administrator in Sweden, launched a project team named ALEX (Automatic Level Crossing System) in 2013 aimed at renewing the network’s level crossings (LC).
