Setting systems in diamond crossings with double slips

April 2014 | Andreas Pogrilz, Georg Sostaric, Herbert Klein

Diamond crossings with slips are crossings with added switch assemblies to enable the passage from one intersecting track to the other in one direction of traffic in the case of single slips or in both directions in the case of double slips. These path selection possibilities are identical to those offered by two turnouts facing each other. Single and double slips being a special challenge to turnout engineering as well as locking and setting systems, with the need for nesting the switch blade assemblies and point frogs, they will only be installed where space is limited.
