Planning ETCS – new aspects and experience, taking the example of the VDE 8 project
Challenges in planning ETCS Level 2 and exploring possible solutions - The German Unity Transport Project No. 8 (VDE 8) entails construction of the long-distance railway line Nuremberg – Erfurt – Halle / Leipzig – Berlin, which is also part of the railway axis between Berlin and Palermo in TEN project no. 1. It has been designed for high-speed operations and equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS).
