Compatibility between CBTC and ETCS

Februar 2013 | Andreas Steingröver, Karsten Rahn

This article gives an overview of the applicable basic concepts and some related specific technical aspects, which need to be observed, when combining CBTC and ETCS. The two basic concepts are the dual fitting of trains with a system transition at the system boundary and the dual fitting of tracks with a mixed-traffic approach. They are selected according to the respective operational context. The specific aspects which originate from the interfaces are then derived from the similarities and differences of both train control systems. In each case, typical proposals for respective implementation are used as a reference.
