ÖBB has now been operating ELEKTRA electronic interlocking systems from Thales in its railway network for over 25 years, while observing its high availability goals. But when is the end of the system’s service life reached from the point of view of safety? How is it possible to recognise ageing in the used components? Is a “big data” analysis necessary or not? Far from it! In this article, we will show how ageing tendencies can be evaluated in the failure rates of components using partially sparse data and as such how a statement can be made about the future achievement of the safety target...
