The ETCS braking curves model: Proposal for improvements for already braking trains
A harmonised braking curves model (functionality) was introduced to the ERTMS / ETCS Baseline 3 specifications. The calculations, as specified today, in principle do not reflect sufficiently current braking of a train. In our opinion, this has a very negative impact on railway operations and possibly also on the overall capacity of the railway infrastructure. We have endeavoured to explain and defend this opinion as well as to propose changes to the formulas in order to obtain better results if the train is currently braking to a target and to demonstrate the resulting behaviour in this article...
