Climate values at a glance – an environmental sensor is creating transparency for signal boxes
Signal boxes are central elements in railway infrastructure. As in many other sensitive areas, the monitoring of indoor conditions is also useful here: temperature, humidity, fine dust and vibrations can influence the behaviour of the technology and increase its susceptibility to faults. Digital measurements have been virtually impossible until now. In addition, not all signal boxes are permanently staffed, as some are subject to remote control. Rising temperatures in the summer months also play a role: climate change has clearly arrived in Europe [1]....
